The homeowner needed a secure and attractive entrance to the backyard through a narrow side-yard access between two homes. Our goal was to install a custom double gate that would not only look great but remain strong and stable for years to come.
As with every gate installation, the most important part of the project happens below ground. To ensure long-term durability, we planned and excavated post holes approximately four feet deep before installing reinforced concrete footings.
Everything was progressing smoothly until we encountered an unexpected obstacle.
Approximately 2.5 feet below grade, we discovered a massive buried rock directly in the location where one of the structural gate posts needed to be installed. The rock occupied a significant portion of the excavation area and prevented us from reaching the required depth.
Many contractors would simply move the post location, reduce the footing depth, or take shortcuts to save time. At Master Works Renovations, we believe that the foundation determines the quality of the finished product.
Our team spent additional time excavating and removing the obstruction before continuing the installation properly. Once the rock was removed, we completed the excavation, installed deep concrete footings, secured the structural posts, and finished them with beautiful cedar cladding for a clean and professional appearance.
The final result is a strong, secure, and visually appealing custom double gate that enhances the property’s appearance while providing convenient backyard access.
